Malnutrition is a serious problem in San Isidro.

Although Peru is famous for its fantastic cuisine, for most families in San Isidro such national dishes are both inaccessible and unaffordable. Instead, the majority of locals are forced to sustain themselves on whatever they can afford, foregoing more expensive healthy alternatives. Due to a lack of a nutritious diet, many children suffer from malnutrition to varying degrees, and are therefore more susceptible to illnesses.

In order to reduce- and eventually eliminate- the issue, Intiwawa has initiated a number of projects to inform and educate local people about the importance of a balanced diet, as well as providing children with access to healthy food every day. This includes offering the children a costless but healthy lunch.

In addition to this, Intiwawa aims to inform local parents what sort of food to offer themselves and their children by hosting several educational programs throughout the year.
