Unpaid positions

Our coordinator positions are unpaid, as all of our income comes from donations and goes directly into our projects. However, as a Coordinator, you assume great responsibilities and gain valuable working experiences for your future career.

All positions are available as internships and can count towards your university course as such!

Volunteer Coordinator

  • Location: Arequipa, Peru
  • Duration: at least 6 months

Maintaining close relations with our volunteers is the key to being successful in this position, as you will play a central part in their experience here in Peru. You are the main point of contact for them before their arrival and here in Peru for orientation, support and coordination. This role is extremely important to our organization as for many volunteers adjusting to the cultural differences and getting settled into their projects can be a challenge. The position is non-paid, but you will receive lots of communicational and organisational skills. You will also form part of the Intiwawa committee and participate in meetings and decision-making.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaboration with the German and Peruvian team of Intiwawa
  • Point of contact for future and current volunteers
  • Welcome new volunteers and provide orientation
  • Support and coordination of all volunteers in the project
  • The organisation of volunteer events for team building and training
  • Mediation between volunteers in the field and committee members
  • Be creative and start your own projects!

Requirements:

Fundraising and Events Coordinator

  • Location: Arequipa, Peru
  • Duration: at least 6 months

You will be responsible for identifying new fundraising potential in the area of Arequipa. In this position you will prepare information materials such as flyers and presentations and cooperate with partners for fundraising events and donations. You will also form part of the Intiwawa committee participate in meetings and decision-making. Furthermore, you will coordinate and oversee the work of other volunteers in this area – principally the Fundraising intern. The position is unpaid, but you will receive lots of communication and fundraising skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Communication and representation of Intiwawa and its principles through fundraising events
  • Production of materials (presentations, flyers etc.) for the local and international promotion of Intiwawa and its projects as well as for internal transparency
  • Coordination and investigation of local fundraising opportunities

Marketing and Communications Coordinator

  • Location: Arequipa, Peru
  • Duration: at least 6 months

You will be responsible for both the external and internal communications at Intiwawa. In this position, you write the newsletters, Blogs, take photos and produce videos, manage the website and social media platforms and cooperate with partner organisations. You will also form part of the Intiwawa committee and participate in meetings and decision-making. Furthermore, you coordinate and oversee the work of other volunteers in Marketing and the Marketing intern. The position is unpaid, but you will receive valuable management and marketing skills and interesting insights into the work of an NGO!

Responsibilities

    • Internal communication of the activities through weekly Newsletters 
    • External communication and representation of Intiwawa through the website, the Newsletter and social media (Facebook, Instagram, Blog, Twitter, Youtube,…)
    • Production of materials (photos, flyers, videos, presentations etc.) for the local and international promotion of Intiwawa and its projects 
    • Coordination of the publicity for volunteer recruitment
    • Monitor and analyse the statistics of the website, Facebook and other platforms
    • Update the Marketing strategy according to the statistics analysis
    • Be creative and start your own projects!

Requirements

    • Fluency in English and a good level of Spanish
    • Experience in Marketing Strategy and Social Media Management

Finance Coordinator

  • Location: Arequipa, Peru
  • Duration: at least 6 months

You will be responsible for the transparency of the money that enters and leaves for Intiwawa’s projects and its management working under the supervision of the treasurer. This position ensures the proper use of Intiwawa's economic resources through the preparation of the monthly budget according to the requirements of each project in coordination with the leaders of each project and the general director. It is part of your responsibility to control that the budget is executed as planned, the income and expenses are recorded according to the financial reports, the financial statements of the organization are prepared. In addition, the cash on hand is administered and used for the payment of expenses of the organization. Most importantly, all expenses incurred are for the use and benefit of the organization.

Responsibilities

    • Execute and control the monthly and annual budget according to the needs of each project, in coordination with the General Director.
    • Prepare monthly and annual financial reports with accounting reconciliations in Quickbooks, internal Excel records and cash on hand Cash on Hand
    • Control and archive that all expenses have due support in digital and physical formats (ballots, invoices, receipts for fees).
    • Record the income and make the expenses of the organization.

Requirements

    • Good knowledge in writing and speaking in Spanish and English
    • Flexibility and ability to adapt to new surroundings, inventiveness, and sensitivity of cultural differences
    • Ability to work efficiently individually and as a team member

Research and Impact Coordinator

  • Location: Arequipa, Peru
  • Duration: at least 6 months

You will be responsible for overseeing the monitoring, evaluation and quality improvement systems of all Intiwawa educational, health and sociocultural programs. In this role, you will work to institutionalize tools for data collection, perform analysis on program-specific databases, interpret data for Intiwawa performance trends, aggregate program quality indicators from said data sets, and eventually present data to Intiwawa leadership and to improve program outcomes. Externally, in coordination with the Communications and Fundraising Coordinator, s/he will help develop tools to demonstrate our impact to our potential and current donors. Internally, in coordination with the Volunteer Coordinator, s/he will help understand the experiences of volunteers in Intiwawa through survey-based research. This role will be primarily based in an work setting with variable opportunities to visit the work site based on program needs and needs of the research conducted. A successful candidate will have a strong interest in monitoring community development indicators and disseminating information to improve program outcomes.

Responsibilities

 

  • Develop reports and manage database data to measure the quality of the implementation of Intiwawa programs
  • Interpret data trends to inform programmatic change
  • Evaluate and work to improve the quality of data assessment tools.
  • Manage and collect data for an ongoing evaluation of the academic performance of children enrolled in Intiwawa
  • Conduct qualitative studies with volunteers and members of the community to better improve and measure programmatic outcomes

Requirements

  • Basic Spanish skills
  • Minimum age is 18 years
  • First experience in community work and community-based research is a plus
  • Analytical skills (basic understanding of statistics and programming experience preferred)

Project Leader

  • Location: Arequipa, Peru
  • Duration: at least 3 months

You will be responsible for the direct community work of Intiwawa on the field. In this position you accompany the volunteers in the project, coordinate their work and identify their best way to contribute. You will also be responsible for the documentation and follow up of the efficient and effective running of the project. You will be the main point of contact for the team and contribute with your initiative and creativity on progressing the project.

Responsibilities

  • Inform about the activities and the plan of the project in weekly meeting
  • Organize necessary resources (volunteers, materiales, budget) for the execution of the project
  • Be point of contact for internal communication with the team on the field

Team member Germany

  • Location: Germany, from your home
  • Duration: at least 6 months

You will work in the German team of Intiwawa mostly online from your home. The German team is a small one with many different tasks and responsibilities! We always need help in our different areas! If you are motivated to support a German-Peruvian NGO in your free time with your skills and have professional experiences to develop your career, we are happy for your help in collaborations and fundraising, volunteer assistance, financial assistance and/or marketing assistance. The position is unpaid, but you will gain valuable experiences in the work of an NGO.

Responsibilities

According to your personal preference and experiences, you can assist us in the following areas:

  • Collaborations and Fundraising Coordinator: develop and carry out a strategy for collaborations and fundraising
  • Assistant in volunteer recruitment: volunteer platforms, contact, selection process
  • Finance Coordinator or Finance Assistant
  • Marketing Assistant: develop a local strategy/campaign for gaining new volunteers and sponsors
  • IT Assistant or Coordinator: Help us with all our questions and problems concerning IT!

Paid positions

General Director

  • Location: Arequipa, Peru
  • Start Date: December 2019
  • Duration: at least 2 years

In this position, you are the key connection between the German and Peruvian team of Intiwawa and coordinate the work of all the different areas (Projects, Finances, Marketing, Volunteers, etc.). Together with the committee of Intiwawa, you develop a strategic plan for the whole year that you afterwards put into practice. The main purpose is to assure the sustainability, efficiency and effectiveness of our projects in Peru to have a maximum positive impact on our children and our communities. Another important task of yours will be to advise the committee regarding improvements of our NGO. You will also organise cooperations with (potential) partner organisations, lead the weekly meetings with the volunteers and be there to help and guide the volunteers and the other coordinators.

  • Create and update centralized and transparent documents
  • Supervise and coordinate the administration and necessary funding for the effective execution of different organizational activities

Voices of Coordinators

Carina, Marketing and Communications Coordinator:

I developed my professional skills being responsible for the entire Marketing area and participating in managerial decisions of the NGO.

As the Marketing and Communications Coordinator, I was responsible for the internal and external communications of Intiwawa through the production of newsletters, the management of different social media platforms and the website. I loved to work autonomously, take decisions in my area and manage my own time, as well as the work of my interns. I also formed part of the executive committee of Intiwawa and, thereby, learned a lot about the functioning of an NGO taking part in important decisions. The work in Intiwawa is quite flexible, so I was able to earn some money working for a European Online Marketing Company. As I am also interested in Project Management, I helped improve the Project Management procedures of the organization by using the project management tools I learned in University. Furthermore, I conducted market research for a business viability analysis, which was super interesting too. The different experiences I made are numerous and super valuable for my future career.

I felt really appreciated in my work and my efforts by the whole team. It was an incredible feeling to do what I love and receive so much respect for my work while contributing to such a great cause. This was much more worth to me than any salary I could have gotten in another company. I also really fell in love with the children and enjoyed spending some time with them in the projects.

Volunteering at Intiwawa is a great opportunity to help other people and work in an incredible team!

A lot of the kids of San Isidro still have to help their parents in the construction of bricks, which is very hard work. Because of the volunteers that are coming each day to our projects in San Isidro and Coporaque, they have the opportunity to reach a better education, study later on and get a better job in the future.
My responsibility for the recruitment of international volunteers is to make sure new volunteers keep coming to Peru to support the organization in their great efforts.

I am working as a volunteer for Intiwawa since 2015 in Germany and in Peru. After volunteering with Intiwawa in Peru in 2015 for 6 months, I decided to continue supporting the Administrative team of Intiwawa in Germany from my home. In 2018 I visited the Peruvian team again for three months. I love to see our kids growing and developing their personalities. As a volunteer of our Intiwawa family, you will have the opportunity to be part of an incredible team and to choose the projects you would like to support (in Germany this can be for example Finance, Fundraising, Accounting, Project Management, Marketing).
