Children of San Isidro

Child labour and domestic violence are sadly common in San Isidro. Many children help their parents with working in brick production after school instead of doing their homework or playing. Furthermore, many parents are unable to support the children with their school work, due to a high level of illiteracy or long working hours.

Mothers of San Isidro

The situation of the women in San Isidro is especially difficult. Many of them grew up with and still suffer from domestic violence. As in many parts of the world, women in Peru are subject to discrimination due to traditional misconceptions in society and a “macho culture”. Therefore, many of the women in San Isidro have troubles finding employment and have to work in the physically hard production of bricks. Additionally, they have to take care of the children and household tasks, like cooking and washing clothes.
